Holy Quran

The Quran is the holy book of Islam and is considered by Muslims to be the word of God as revealed to Prophet Muhammad over a period of approximately 23 years. It is organized into chapters called surahs, and it contains guidance and teachings for Muslims on matters of faith, morality, governance, social issues, and more.
Here is a brief overview of the history of the Quran:

1. Revelation:

The Holy Quran's revelation began in the year 610 CE when the Angel Gabriel appeared to Prophet Muhammad while he was in a cave in Mecca. Gabriel commanded Muhammad to recite the words of God, and thus, the process of revelation began.

2. Compilation:

The Prophet Muhammad, along with his companions, memorized the revealed verses and wrote them down on different materials such as parchments, palm leaves, and bones. These written verses were recited publicly during prayers and other gatherings.

3. Standardization:

During the caliphate of Uthman ibn Affan (r. 644-656 CE), the third caliph of Islam, a standardized version of the Quran was compiled. This compilation was done to ensure that the Quranic text remains consistent across different regions and dialects.

4. Preservation:

The preservation of the Quran has been a priority for Muslims from the early days of Islam. Through the practice of memorization and recitation, the Quran has been passed down from generation to generation. Today, millions of Muslims have memorized the entire text of the Quran, ensuring its preservation.

The Quran Surah Names List  is divided into 114 chapters, or surahs, of varied length. There are both short and long verses in every chapter. While the biggest chapter contains 286 verses, the shortest just has 3. Over the course of 23 years, the Prophet (SAW) was in Makkah for the first 13 years and then roughly 10 years in Madinah when the Quran was revealed to him.
The Prophet (SAW) named the majority of the surahs in the Qur'an. The Prophet's companions gave some surahs names, like Al-Isra or Al-Zumar, for example. Many chapters are given names based on the major idea or action that takes place there.

Many surahs have multiple names because of how the Prophet (SAW) and his sahaba referred to them. Consequently, you will discover that a surah has a different name in some copies of the Quran. Just the chapter name is changed; the text and contents are identical.
